On February 25, 2023, Chiao Pengfei’s personal exhibition Body and Landscape was opened in 18 Du Grey Art Museum. The artist built a 50-meter long channel on the site, standing in the pictures of the gallery.🫡

The overall experience of the exhibition is described by participant @Contemporary Tao Yuanming:
When I entered the art museum, I suddenly saw a white cave. I was surprised and confused, but I had already paid the fee. After entering the hole, there are two channels, one of which is randomly entered, and the material of the hole is cloth. Suddenly, I hear the noise and it is folded. After listening carefully, it turns out that it is the sound of various advertisements on TV. When I stopped at the sound, I saw a small hole with a silver edge on the cloth. Through the hole, I saw a wine advertisement playing on the screen, which made me feel confused. I continued to move on. I saw a few big words on the screen “This advertising space exhibition period long-term rental, contact number: 13XXXXXXXXX (Jiao). At this time, I had turned back to the entrance, and the two white holes were connected from end to end. About the exhibition
This is the artist Jiao Pengfei’s solo exhibition, Jiao Pengfei is a performance artist, occasionally naughty rough man🤭, such an artist’s solo exhibition, naturally a little strange🤫. In fact, I am used to viewing the scene of art exhibition as a social scene in which free creation is taking place, which is equivalent to a participatory art scene between the curator and the artist in an art museum with the public. Of course, the premise is that there should be a “curator” 🤝with no restrictions on creation, and an informal curator — the curatorial artist🤗.
The artist Jiao Pengfei especially emphasizes the site of the works, that is, the occurrence of art, is in the time and space of the creation of the artist. This is not how rare art theory, but this is Jiao Pengfei as a performance artist independent creation of the basic artistic attitude, so, to do a previous work image exhibition Jiao Pengfei is not interested in the first place.
On the other hand, Jiao Pengfei emphasizes the physical nature of performance art. Therefore, he hopes to change the convention of audience “watching exhibition” in his performance art exhibition. He hopes that the audience will not travel an exhibition visually, but let the body participate in the whole process of “watching exhibition”, so as to enhance the participation degree and contact relationship between the audience and the exhibition site.
Therefore, in the whole exhibition site, the artist uses elastic cloth to build a channel that cannot be smoothly passed through. It is almost difficult for the audience to pass through the channel comfortably👍, which is especially emphasized by the artist. During the whole exhibition, they must hold up the cloth with their hands, heads or bodies.

The artist shows the body movements of the audience in the process of watching the exhibition. These movements form a flowing sculpture when viewed from outside the channel. Under the camera of the scene, it becomes a landscape clue, which is a translation of the social scene composed of advertisements and fuzzy bodies.
From the perspective of interactivity, the audience did not see the artworks they expected, but saw a bunch of advertisements that can be seen everywhere in daily life, which is an “accident” created by the artist for the audience. It is absurd for an artist to invite an advertisement into a museum in the name of art to bring it into the “palace” and let the audience consume an advertisement that can be seen everywhere in daily life. This behavior is also the “naughtiness” of the artist. Such naughtiness, presented seriously, is to make fun of, which itself is the expression form of attitude. The artist and the curatorial team hope to explain some issues in such a way, and the whole exhibition has thus become a performance art participation site🤗.
Works or advertising? Seriously, it’s a real advertisement
Advertising, as a kind of image or image, is swirling around our world to attract and make noise. While shaping the urban landscape in the way of audio and video images, it fills our sensory channels and spiritual world, occupying the way for us to understand and feel the world. It is also shaping a new fantasy space outside the reality, which makes us unable to realize. Imperceptibly, imperceptibly, it appears to us as a matter of course, and we also accept its rendering of our brains, even the alienation of the body, the abduction of behavior. Anyone who enters it must be in cahoots with it. From this point of view, perhaps, a work of art, the impact on people is not as fierce as an advertisement😥, and for some artists😎, do exhibition, is not advertising😂?
It made me feel sad and helpless😭. It was a game of systems and shrewd social calculators🫠, a picture of the body with real feelings.😵💫 In such a huge calculation, the picture was completely ignored in cold blood.😮💨
Therefore, to advertise people with a solo exhibition is not only to “others” but also to “people”🌹.
